The Search for Border Canaries

February 12, 2009

In late 2007 I started to look into raising border canaries as a hobby and I quickly found out that border canaries are hard to find in North America.  Having not much luck finding a border fancier anywhere close to where I live, I started  making plans to acquire a few birds from Europe but in the meantime I kept up my search to find someone with good birds in North America.  Whenever I enquired about border canaries in North America, Paul Dee's name would come up.  I did some searching and I got a hold of him early in 2008. He had a good breeding season and I was able to get 2 pairs from him in the fall of 2008. Another border fancier that I was able to find was Vince Turco.  He didn't have a good breeding season in 2008 and I was only able to get 1 pair from him.  Vince has been helpful in giving advice on raising borders and he also helped to bring Paul Dee's birds over to Canada for me as I did not attend the National Bird Show in Michigan.

Here are videos of a few of the borders that I was able to get.
